From Passion to Profession: Behind the Scenes of My Life as a Content Creator in Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Travel, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and the beautiful reality of turning something you love into a career.
Sometimes I genuinely have to stop and remind myself that this is actually my job. 🥹
When I started McHorgh Media, I knew I loved storytelling, social media, and creating content. I've always enjoyed capturing moments, bringing ideas to life, and producing content that makes people feel something. What I didn't fully imagine was how far that passion would eventually take me.
Fast-forward to today, and I'm travelling, working with artists, meeting incredible people, and capturing unforgettable experiences in places like Costa Rica.
And every now and then, I have one of those moments when I think, Wait, I really get to do this for a living?
Building McHorgh Media: Turning My Passion Into a Business
Starting McHorgh Media was about creating something of my own while doing work that genuinely excited me.
I've always believed that good content goes beyond beautiful visuals. It's about storytelling, connection, and capturing moments in ways that allow people to experience them, even if they weren't physically there.
Over time, that passion evolved into a business that allows me to work with different brands, businesses, and creatives while constantly learning and developing my craft.
Of course, entrepreneurship isn't always glamorous. There are long days, tight deadlines, creative challenges, editing sessions that seem never-ending, and the responsibility of managing a business.
But there are also moments that make every bit of it worthwhile.
And Costa Rica was definitely one of those moments.
Working and Exploring Costa Rica 🇨🇷
One of the things I love most about being a content creator is that no two projects are exactly alike.
My recent work trip to Costa Rica with Jamaican music group T.O.K. was a reminder of just how exciting and unpredictable this career can be.
Between capturing performances, documenting moments behind the scenes, exploring a different country, and experiencing the energy of the people around me, there was so much happening.
But that's exactly what makes this kind of work special.
It's not just about showing up with a camera and pressing record. It's about recognizing the moments worth capturing, anticipating what happens next, and telling a story that brings the entire experience together.
There's something special about being able to capture the energy of a live performance while also documenting the quieter, more personal moments that audiences don't usually get to see.
Those are the details that make a story feel authentic.
The Side of Content Creation You Don't Always See
Social media often shows the finished product: the beautiful locations, exciting performances, perfectly edited videos, and unforgettable experiences.
What you don't always see is everything happening behind the camera.
The early mornings. The long days. The constant movement. The planning. The filming. The reviewing of footage. The editing. And sometimes, trying to enjoy the actual experience while making sure you capture enough content to tell the story properly.
As someone who is both a content creator and a business owner, I've learned that wearing multiple hats comes with the territory.
One minute you're thinking creatively, and the next you're making business decisions, organizing deliverables, or figuring out how to turn hours of footage into a few minutes of meaningful storytelling.
It's a lot, but it's also something I'm incredibly grateful to be doing.
A New Behind-the-Scenes Travel Series on YouTube
This Costa Rica vlog is hopefully the beginning of something new on my YouTube channel.
I want to take you along on more of my work travels and give you a look at what life is really like behind the scenes of running McHorgh Media.
Not just the highlights, but the entire experience.
The places I visit, the people I meet, the creative process, the unexpected moments, the challenges, and everything in between.
I want this series to feel like you're right there with me, experiencing the adventure as it unfolds.
Because while the final content is important, sometimes the journey behind creating it is just as interesting.
Learning to Appreciate How Far I've Come
I'm someone who is constantly thinking about what's next.
The next project. The next client. The next destination. The next goal.
And while ambition is a beautiful thing, sometimes it makes us forget to appreciate what we've already accomplished.
There is still so much I want to do with McHorgh Media. So many creative ideas I want to bring to life, places I want to visit, and opportunities I hope to experience.
But I also want to be more intentional about celebrating the journey.
Because the version of me who started this business would probably be so excited to see where we are today.
And that's something worth acknowledging.
