SUNDAYS ARE NOT JUST FOR BRUNCHING: KINGSTON CREATIVE ARTWALK

SUNDAYS ARE NOT JUST FOR BRUNCHING

If you're looking for something fun to do on a Sunday, can I recommend visiting one of Kingston Creative’s Art Walk? I recently went with the Love Not Likes crew and was pleasantly surprised. Starting at 11:00am and extending throughout the day, this free monthly art event features art in various formats from murals to art galleries, music, dance, food, vendors and more. All this goes down every last sunday at F&B Downtown, 107 Harbour Street.

ABOUT KINGSTON CREATIVE

Kingston Creative is a movement with a mission to make downtown Kingston a vibrant centre for creatives and creative entrepreneurship in the Caribbean. Seeing Kingston as the creative capital of the Caribbean, Kingston Creative’s goal is to “empower entrepreneurs to create economic and social value, gain access to global markets and have a positive impact on their local communities.” They recently received a  $4 million grant to build the first creative hub in the Caribbean and I can’t wait to see the finished product. The next Artwalk is scheduled for July 28th 2019.

LUNCH AT F&B DOWNTOWN

Art is not something  that you should rush and if you're planning on attending one of these art walks then I would suggest setting aside a couple of hours to truly appreciate the beautiful artwork being displayed. Luckily, F&B Downtown is smacked in the middle of the Art Walk activities which makes it the perfect lunch stop. With vibrant artwork all over the walls, you'll feel like you're dining inside of an art gallery. The dim lights, framed photographs, and wooden accents gives off a romantic artsy ambiance. There’s something for everyone on the menu, the restaurant features Italian, Caribbean, European, Asian and Jamaican cuisines. You can take a look at their menu here

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE ATTENDING THE ART WALK

  • Stay hydrated. Walk with water or beverages that you can sip on to keep you hydrated throughout the day.

  • Walk with a battery pack. A portable battery pack allows you to charge your devices on the go so you don’t have to miss any photo moments.

  • Be mindful of the weather and dress accordingly. Wear comfortable shoes because you’ll be on your feet alot.

  • Cash. Take cash with you to support and purchase items from the vendors.

  • Be aware of your surroundings and your personal items.
